Open House: A List of Things to do Before Your Open House

If you are selling a home in Fort Worth, you want to make sure that it looks its very best before you have an open house. When a home is attractive and in good condition, not only will people be more willing to buy it, but they will also be willing to pay a higher price. If you are not sure of what you can do to make your house more attractive, the following list can help.

Freshen the Home with Paint

One of the best ways to give a home a fresh new look without spending a lot of money is by painting it. You can choose to paint just the exterior or interior or a combination of both. When choosing colors, steer away from bright, wild colors and opt for soft, neutral colors instead.

Spruce Up the Yard

Since the yard is the first thing that people will see when they come to your open house, you will want to be sure that everything is in order and clean. Some things that you should do include rake and/or mow the lawn, wash down the driveway, pick up any clutter, prune the bushes and weed the garden.

Add Light to the Home’s Rooms

If is a fact that most people do not feel comfortable in a dark, dismal room. As such, make sure you open the drapes and/or blinds to let the sunlight in. However, it is perfectly acceptable to have soft lighting in such rooms as bedrooms and bathrooms.

Check the Plumbing

In some cases, visitors may want to check the home’s plumbing to make sure that it works. As such, you will want to be sure to have a plumber Fort Worth check everything out and ensure that it is all in proper working condition. You may also wish to add an attractive new faucet, shower head or sink as well.

Ensure that the Home is Clean and Smells Good

Finally, before you have your open house, make sure that the home is clean and smells good. Put away any clutter, dust thoroughly, mop/vacuum the floors, polish the furniture and leave some scented candles or automatic air freshening units in various places throughout the home.

These are just a few things you can do before you have an open house. Other things you may want to consider include setting out fresh flowers on a table in the living room or kitchen, playing some soothing music and leaving a small tray of snacks by the entryway. When you follow these useful tips, you are sure to sell your house in no time.

Great information for us to all be reminded of.

A couple more ideas that can go a long way to having a home show well, is clean the windows. I attended several open houses just this past weekend and the windows were a mess, even the entries. They weren’t new fingerprints, but just where no one had cleaned the doors (or windows) for weeks.

Another, might be if the client has a pet, hide the bed and any accessories. Some people are very allergic and though you think it doesn’t matter, it does!

You want the attendee to see the house as “their new home” not your (or the clients) old home!
